Speaking as someone who mostly only watches anime made in the 70s and 80s with very few exceptions - just because there's a new version of something, it doesn't automatically make it inferior. I wish someone would remake the original Gundam series, in fact, I prefer the much more recent Gundam: The Origin manga to the original tv show.

Some people think "authenticity" is the hallmark of good taste, and they spend their lives proving how much more authentic their own tastes are than anyone else's -- especially if their taste is somehow more rarified and specialized as a result. Meh. I agree with you -- sometimes new and improved actually is new and improved, and just cause a lot of people like it, doesn't mean it's bad.
