106 - I'm like this about Gravitation. People who adore it as it is would hate it and mock it if Shuuichi didn't have a dick which is, ironically, pretty much the only proof that he's really a guy. As for Sukisho, I always hated the character designs - not because of the gender ambiguity issue, it's just that the show is just plain ugly.

107 - Then again, an upsetting ending is not necessarily a sucky one. I cried for two days over an ending and I still think it was a (mostly) great and worthy finale. There are books and shows whose endings made and still make me sad, yet I think they're incredibly well-done and fitting endings. YMMV and all that.

121 - As much as I liked her, I definitely wouldn't want her to come back. I hate it when writers pull the "OMG SHE'S DEAD! LET'S ANGST!! ...wait, it was just a trick! She's actually alive!" trick.

147 - But it is childish and silly, most of the time. The thing is, something doesn't need to be Deep and Mature and Serious for people to like it. I still like Sailormoon and I like the live action series as well which gets more shit from people than the anime. But I don't pretend that they're actually serious and enlightening and whatnot.

151 - Just enjoying a good story? Having fun? My dear child, that's not what fandom is about. Fandom is Serious Business!

184 - You'd be sick of it in a month.

You'd be surprised at my saccharine tolerance. I dated a guy for a year who was a lot like that. I'd still be with him if he hadn't had that emotional breakdown... (long story)

You know, I never found Shuuichi girly at all (pink hair and dressing up as a girl occasionally, which comes off as a gag more than anything). He strikes me as the crazy obsessive person than anything.

To me, he's a (stereo)typical hyper teenage fangirl on a sugar high most of the time. Switching his gender would have a minimal impact on both the character's behavior and the story (maybe the media reactions to his relationship with Yuki would be a bit less loud, but even that concerns only one episode).

The thing is, of course, that if Shuuichi was a girl nobody would be interested in the story because then it'd be just another run of the mill romance between a naive but enthusiastic girl and a bastard with issues. (IMO this is why Gravitation is so accessable even for people who normally don't like BL.)
