Lord, how I wish you had a "core belief" in your own ignorance. Believe me, I PROFOUNDLY believe in your complete and utter ignorance. If the kind of classical education I teach produces worthless little shits like you, I'm gonna quit teaching and just participate in fandom full time. Because seriously? You make me ashamed to be a part of "higher" education

For some background reading on just how problematic your position is, read Jenkins, _Textual Poachers_, pgs. 16-27. Here's a good quotation for you, just in case, like lots of classically educated students, you just don't like to read: "Education can be a force for the democratization of cultural life .... Often, however, education is too preoccupied with protecting its own status to successfully fulfill such a role" (26).

I'm sorry if my refusal to include your "humanities" studies in the broader umbrella of "liberal arts" makes you feel unappreciated, but you are not going to convince me---or anyone---of the classical value of slash fanfiction.
