Seriously, in small fandoms sometimes that's all you're gonna get. Not every writer is down to pen 100k epics for a fandom of twenty. And some people just prefer short form.

Nor yours, as using 'indication' doesn't in fact work in that sentence. I would guess there was a typo and they meant to write "as indicative" which would be correct.

Yeah I understand preferring shorter fics, but anything under 1,000 that isn't a comment fic or fill on a kink meme or something seems like a waste of time to me (and even then I prefer 5,000+ word fics). It's completely baffling to me that so many people are apparently satisfied by glorified drabbles.

Well, depends on the purpose of those fics. I'm perfectly content with a 400 words fic for a missing scene after my show did the fade to black thing, for example.

I was curious how a 200-word fic got so many kudos (turns out it's really easy to find on ao3), and this is Skysolo smut posted a couple years ago. So, tens of thousands of hits for smut of a popular ship in a massive fandom. That's the key.
