What are your favorite urban legends?

Local OR those ones that are everywhere.

I know two local ones that I expect are actually fairly common.

Happy Dog: Some road haunted by a giant, black dog.
Cry Baby Bridge: A baby(ies) dies by being thrown off a bridge. So if you go to the bridge and turn off the car, you can hear a baby crying. If you put baby powder on your bumper handprints show up.

A specific local one, would be John D. Long Lake. This is the lake that Susan Smith drowned her two sons at by letting her car roll into the lake while they were in it. That would spark some haunting rumors on its own.

Two years after that happened, a family was visiting the spot to see the memorial for the boys. All seven died when their car rolled into the lake (on the same boat ramp). Somehow they could not get out.

The city moved the memorial and got rid of the boat ramp.

Aw the happy dog one sounds nice. A haunting by a giant black dog that's happy to see you sounds like a great time.

Well, he wasn't a nice dog despite the name. Not sure how he got the name "Happy Dog".

this lady liked to knit, and she liked to design her own sweaters. One night she had dinner at a Chinese restaurant and she saw some characters on the menu that she thought looked interesting, so she copied them down on her napkin and knit them into the pattern on her sweater. The first time she wore the sweater in public, this Chinese guy started laughing at her. Turns out the Chinese words were "the meat is cheap but good".
Another one: This young guy moved to Sturgis and got a job in a local mom and pop grocery store. He was worried about the bikers and the old guy who ran the store told him not to worry about it. The first day of the rally the old guy got sick so the younger guy had to work in the store alone. A bunch of bikers walk into the store and buy lots of food, beer, etc. two preppy looking guys walk in right after the bikers are were just sort of randomly wandering around the store. the bikers leave after plunking down a big wad of cash for groceries.
Young guy: boy, I sure am glad those bikers are gone!
Preppies: Yeah, so are we! (they whip out guns and proceed to rob all the cash the bikers just spent)

Parrot owner leaves town for a week and hires a pet sitter. When she comes back, the parrot says, "fucking parrot, damn dog" over and over again.

Heard that from two unrelated people who both swear it's a true story and they knew the people involved.

Similarly, the one about the macho white guy who says, "you can't make it too hot for me," and the little old Thai/Vietnamese/Indian/Mexican cook who proves him wrong.

Similarly again - the story about a biology teacher who mentions that sperm is 80% sugar, and then a girl in class asks "How come it tastes so salty", and then the teacher says, "Because the tastebuds for sweetness are on the tip of the tongue, not the back of the throat."

I had a friend in high school who swore up and down that it happened to a friend of his.

It's local-ish. A couple hours south of here there's a town along Route 66 that has a Confederate bushwhacker who's looking for his head. It was hung from a tree as a warning to other bushwhackers, and then buried beneath it. Supposedly, if his head is found it can be burned along with the tree to send him on his way, except no one anymore has any idea what tree it was. So, he just does his restless undead thing and deaths and misfortunes get blamed on him just because he wants his dang head.
