If you haven't seen the Emma Thompson S&S, now is the time! I love it so much.

Definitely respect OP's differing opinion, but I think the casting is all brilliant, including Hugh Grant. He does get more to do as a character, things like sword fighting with Margaret for example that Thompson wrote in for him, so I think it is fair to say the character is somewhat changed from the book, but I think the charming awkwardness is still there, rather than smarminess.
