+1

I'm sorry, OP, because I'm probably part of the problem. I love zombie plague storylines and never seem to get tired of even the most obnoxiously overused zombie movie tropes.

I hope they make more non-zombie movies for you.

Yeah, that would be nice.

I kind of like ones when whatever great, big bad thing that happened is over and now they have to fix or rebuild stuff. And little bad things can happen, like aftereffects, but the big disaster is over and they have to figure out a way to go forward.

Same. I prefer overgrown, flooded, and post-post apocalypse but that's even harder to find! Most stuff without zombies is usually wasteland/nuclear.

I agree. Not a fan of zombies. Yet to find a version of zombies I actually enjoy.

read Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel!! I just recently read it and it's SO GOOD. it's about the world after a flu wipes almost everyone out, but also goes back and forth between before the flu and after. it's KILLER, i read it in one day

I was literally just about to rec Station Eleven, so thanks for chiming in and reccing it more eloquently than I could.

I definitely second the rec for Station Eleven.

I like zombies, but I'm down for about any kind of apocalypse scenario out there. I would, myself, prefer something *kinda* like zombies, but not quite so cliche - something that mutates or whatever people so they're fucked up and murderous, but not necessarily walking corpses.

Oh, gosh. Yes, please. I like post-apocalyptic stuff, but zombies are meh to me.

There's lots of great stuff in print and comics right now.

How about Dies the Fire (and associated Emberverse series though it's really only the first few that have a stong post-apocalyptic feel once he settles into the new societies that have formed) by SM Stirling?

(Anonymous) 2018-06-02 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Very local apocalypse, but you might like Brown Girl in the Ring by Nalo Hopkinson.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-02 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
there actually is quiet a bit of media that's post-apocalyptic that's not zombie related. It depends tho if you like comics and video games or post-apocalypse settings that don't fit the rigid roles of society fell apart. My favorites are the fallout series, metro series, and others like I have no mouth and I must scream or war of the worlds

I only have experience with the games but Metro 2033 fits the bill. The novels they're based on are pretty good too from what I heard. There's no zombies, just the elements, mutated animals, and humans as your enemies.

Look into Japanese media. Seriously. A ton of it - anime, manga, games, literature - are post-apocalyptic.

If you like books there's The Road by Cormac McCarthy and the Maddaddam trilogy by Margaret Atwood.

Try Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee

There is an anime called Girls Last Tour (shojo shumatsu ryoko).

Literally just about two girls wondering a post apocalyptic world and trying to figure out how humans used to live. Probably the most relaxing and comfy post apocalyptic thing I've ever watched.

I'm down for any and all post-apocalyptic scenarios. Zombies or non-zombies.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-02 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too, but I've never had a problem finding source material?

(Anonymous) 2018-06-02 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe James Howard Kuntsler's World Made By Hand?

I'm not the biggest fan of zombies either. 'The Day of the Triffids' by John Wyndham is one of my favourite post-apocalyptic stories ever. The story begins with a meteor shower that permanently blinds everyone who saw it.
