I've never seen this, but I will say that the Scarlet Pimpernel is one of my all-time favourite musicals, so it's a shame if this isn't up to par.

I remember watching this with my parents when it was first broadcast so god this was a complete blast from the past for me.

I can't remember much about it other than Martin Shaw...cos my mum fancied him!

Martin Shaw truly is magnificent as Chauvelin. I was very disappointed when he didn't appear in the second series. I think in one of the books, Percy rescues him? I so wanted to see that.

(I'm currently listening to his brilliant reading of the Silmarillion, so this reminder is a bit weird!)

I know I watched this, but all I can remember is Chauvelin and the delightfully creepy Robespierre, so I have to agree with you!

I didn't mind this version, but wouldn't be opposed to seeing a remake. You're right though, Martin Shaw was amazing in it.

Chauvelin in that adaptation was my first old guy crush. Sigh...
