108: Possibly because it's not your fandoms, and real fans will react when you get things completely wrong?

130: I agree; most published BL reads like the worst kind of shoujo (or hentai, in the case of explicity, though usually sadly deviod of tentacles).

I think that's why there's so much yaoi/BL fanfic for popular series with strong character interaction; we have the plot and characters we like, the only thing missing is the romance. Because there's still not a genre where the BL just is a part of the plot.

136: They're icons. Who cares?

154: That's a bit cruel, isn't it? I mean, I'm more inclined to feel bad for the U.S. in that case. They need someone to start taking care of all the problems in their country, and from what I've heard, Barack Obama is at least a step in the right direction.

158: He's all right. He went a bit overboard with Rose, and shortchanged Donna in the end, but as you say, he brought Doctor Who back.

If you caught someone ripping off fic and getting lots of attention and praise, wouldn't you want to tell people that they were doing it?

What exactly do you mean by "ripping off"? Because copying style, characterisation, plot elements, and pairing dynamics is pretty much standard fro fanfic (and published fic too, for that matter). It's not a big deal.

This and that most BL are one shots or single volumes which makes it hard to pull a really good characterization and character relationships. I find myself reading more and more doujinshi of popular series than reading the original stuff due to doujinshi giving the freedom to the doujinka to write whatever they want, whereas in original BL, most are in companies that have strict guidelines of what will happen in the manga.

Yeah, the constraints of the genre is really limiting, IMO.

The best stories are generally the ones you can see were probably (or possibly) supposed to be BL, but due to genre the creator couldn't go all out. God Child, Yami no Matsuei, and Princess Princess comes readily to mind, but I suspect others as well. Even some in the shounen genre!

When I think of the origins of BL, and the seventeen volumes of Kaze to Ki no Uta, I almost despair.

Just because they're small?

If someone borrowed a significant and unique idea from my original work (made from scratch, unlike the examples in the secret), no matter what the size or medium is, I'd appreciate it if the creator of the adaptation would at least tell me about it or pay respect to what gave them the idea.

I think icons are nice and fun, and some are really good, but it's not exactly what I'd call great art. Sometimes they have a good effect, but I have a feeling it's all taken a bit too seriously.
