Now if only Hollywood will care about other minorities’ representation

(Anonymous) 2018-06-05 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Pff, keep dreaming. "Racial Diversity" in Hollywood and the US in general means black. Maybe one or two Arabic/Muslim people thrown in. But that's it.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-05 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
i mean, you're not wrong. so many people apparently see "poc rep" & "black rep" as synonyms, for whatever reason? and asians in particular never get much of anything, ever, in hollywood.

it's hard to find latin characters that aren't stereotypes either

(Anonymous) 2018-06-05 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely. Stuff like Coco & Brooklyn Nine-Nine are steps in the right direction, but it's seriously lacking anywhere else.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-06 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
This is so true. I don't begrudge black representation at all, but why is it such a synonym for racial diversity? Where are all the Asian Hollywood leads? Latins, and Pacific Islanders? Even, dare I say, Native Americans?

^

And I say this as a black person. We're not the only people out there who aren't white.

Well, the important thing is that you're actively aware of it and working to unlearn things. Good luck, OP, it's not easy but it's good you're working on it!

(Anonymous) 2018-06-05 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn, I think I would hate that, too.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-05 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Was this ripped from postsecret? I've definitely seen this secret somewhere before

(Anonymous) 2018-06-06 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. It was on PS last week.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-05 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know Rick, this secret looks fake

(Anonymous) 2018-06-06 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
This was on postsecret last week. Just sayin'.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-06 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
You're doing great, OP. You're learning and consciously working to be a more empathetic person. A small step forward is still a step, yeah?

(Anonymous) 2018-06-06 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
OP stole it from Post Secrets. They need to do a different sort of work. Though I agree with you about the message

(Anonymous) 2018-06-06 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
In that case, I guess "OP" is whoever put this in Post Secrets. S'cool.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-06 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Somewhat related, but I'm really ashamed to admit I was never really attracted to black men till this movie. I'm extremely attracted to Chadwick (he's so pretty, it hurts!), MBJ, and Winston Duke now and it sucks that a lot of places on the internet like even Tumblr don't bring them up in discussion of hot Marvel dudes.

But yeah, I feel you, OP.

The Wire had a similar effect on me, because it was the first thing I'd ever watched that showed black characters as being complex, layered and diverse across the moral/personality spectrum. I didn't need a show to tell me that was true, of course, but there's something different about getting emotionally invested in and identifying with black characters.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-06 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
At least blacks get some representation.
