SPOILERS

I can see why people are pissed off at the implication that Pearl was never free from her owner. People liked the idea that Pearl broke off from her original owner and joined the rebellion. The fact that the rebellion was started and lead by her owner does suggest that Pearl wasn't rebelling purely out of free will.

Personally I think that since Pearl and Pink Diamond conspired together to rebel, it's not too bad. I think they fed each other's ideas.

That being said, if a rebellion had actually been started by a non-Diamond gem (like a Bismuth, a Peridot, etc) I don't think Pearl would have joined the rebellion, because she loved Pink Diamond so much.

Or did she love Pink Diamond because of what the rebellion awakened in her? And she would have fallen in love with a different gem if that gem had the personality of the Rose Quartz persona she fell in love with?

I don't know, I'm thinking myself in circles. In any case I'm not throwing my hat into the ring until we see more of Pearl's backstory.

On the one hand, I'm a little annoyed that Pearl wasn't this ownerless renegade throwing off her programing. On the other, the delicious complications from sticking with her owner... woof. It's so messy, and I do so love messy.

Maybe I'm wrong but Pearl might not even be PD's Pearl. The Pearls we've seen were colored similarly to their Diamonds. Pearl looks awfully white, so maybe she belonged to WD. Not that I care really either way. Why are people getting upset over this?
