I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I think I understand. If I'm in a fandom for, say, a tv show, I'm in it for that show and its characters. On occasion I'll enjoy a nice picspam of my fave, but I don't want the entire convo to be about their other projects. Same goes for fic: I want fic that's about the show, not AUs that are really entirely new stories with characters that vaguely resemble those from the show. Guess my idea of fandom is a bit narrower than most.
