Wait, I thought people hated Darcy because fandom turned her into a self-insert to pair with their favourite MCU dudes? And I thought people hated Groot because the canon turned him into an overly cutesy mascot character designed for kids? Which one are you worried the Black Panther girl is going to be?

For both, MCU took a fan favorite and turned them to 11 in the sequel.

I'm not deeply involved in Marvel fandom but from what I'm seeing from an outside perspective Shuri is already the fandom "meme" lover like Darcy was.

I don't get the connection with Groot at all though. Groot is just a mascot that repeats one phrase.

I think the secret poster means how the filmmakers took a side character with behavior the audience liked in small doses and assumed that everyone wanted so much more. And so, in the next movie, there's not only a lot more of the character, but the behavior is on steroids.

If I'm not mistaken, these were different filmmakers than those on board for Thor. I think Shuri will be fine. I say this because I hope that the same awareness, thought, and care that went into BP1 goes into BP2 (and yes, I realize it's a franchise within a greater franchise, but still) .

The director for each of the Thor films was different (Kenneth Branagh, Alan Taylor, Taika Waititi). The director for the Guardians of the Galaxy was the same for both of those films (James Gunn). As far as I know a second Black Panther has not been announced, so while it could have the same director (Ryan Coogler), that's not an absolute, and even if it was, part of the decision-making is Marvel's and good directors/writers can fall into the trap of dialing up a character too much. I'm not saying that will happen.

I don't really have a horse in this race, I don't mind either Darcy or Groot, but then I didn't actually watch Thor 2 or GoG 2. I was just commenting with what I had heard other people had problems with regarding Darcy and Groot and thus what I thought the secret poster meant. I will say that I have seen it in other movies and things that are quirky/cute in a character with a few scenes can easily become annoying when their screen time is upped (and they lean into those quirky/cute things).
