I had to listen to this song zillions of times back when my little sister was obsessed with One Direction and I never got that impression from the song. I always thought it was about a girl who had issues with the way she looks (or pretends to have said issues) and a guy reassuring her that she's pretty, which is a common message in pop songs.

Same, and it's kinda depressing that so many women here automatically think the worst of the male narrator - he's harassing the girl, he can't take no for an answer, he feels entitled to her attention, etc.

Perhaps you should be finding it more depressing that the reason they do that is probably bitter experience?
