serious question, what does "having a bad experience" mean?

like. it's. fandom. there's stuff I think is super gross or boring or OOC or whatever in my fandoms too, but I scroll past or up my filter game. disgust is not a hot tipline for moral truth

You can up your filter game all you want. If it's a juggernaut pairing it doesn't help. And there was a big thing where a list of "poisonous antis" was made bc we just didn't want to see that crap.

Also I hate that all the fandom regulation is on the consumer.

I don't even understand the connection here unless it's "Anti's" don't want to be associated with "poisonous anti's" because they're shocked, absolutely shocked that there isn't a consensus among all their bullshit about what they don't want people to do.

You don't have much ground to stand on complaining about everyone in your clique being blocked for being "poisonous" if your clique proudly blocks everyone in another clique for being gross freaks.

And of course the regulation is on the consumer. As long as creators are tagging, they are doing all they need to do.

Dude, the only regulating duty a creator has is following the rules of the sites where they post their work, and adding the appropriate tags and warnings.

If they fail to do that, by all means, feel free to ask them to fix it. However, if they have followed the rules, tagged and warned correctly, then their job is done and any extra measures to avoid the content you don't want to see are your responsibility.

it's not all on the consumer, though. pretty much everyone on the DLDR side has always agreed that proper tagging and warning is the responsibility of the author.

and I know juggernauts are aggravating when you're not into them, but like.....so what? really, sincerely, so what? Nobody owes you a world that contains only things you like. And nobody is gonna make you read it.

"poisonous antis" wasn't a thing because you "didn't want to see it," it's because people were being harassed, doxxed, suicide baited, targeted with smear campaigns, etc. Maybe you personally didn't want those things to happen, but tons of antis have been vocally and enthusiastically trying to hurt real people as viciously as possible (and usually targeting vulnerable/mentally ill/queer creators and fellow survivors who dare to say 'I don't agree with you"). THAT'S a bad experience that people have a right to protect themselves from.

"Other people are enjoying themselves in a way you hate without demanding your involvement, and you have to make some effort to ignore it to share the same community"....isn't.

on AO3 you can report it, and even on tumblr...like, missing content warnings is one thing, but in the age of 'every ship I hate is Unwoke/evil,' how many people are out there reading fic not even knowing what the pairing is?

Yeah I can't imagine many fics that break the rules by not using warnings that it needs to be using going unreported for too terribly long.

I hate one of the biggest ships in my fandom. I still manage to avoid it 99% of the time by using filters. Sure, some stuff always slips in because people don't tag things all the time, but it's still pretty easy to avoid.

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN CONSUMPTION OF ALL TYPES OF ENTERTAINMENT IS ON THE CONSUMER.

Don't like, don't read, ffs. Just like you would not watch a movie that deals with things you don't like and find disturbing, you should not read fanfic that isn't to your taste. Clicking out of a fic is so easy! Try it sometime! The creator's only responsibility is to tag appropriately.

Like...isn't the consumer the one doing the reading...the scrolling...the one sitting at the computer choosing to open tabs and post and blog and so on?? DOES SOMEONE HAVE A GUN TO YOUR HEAD RIGHT NOW????
