There is likely a regulation in your area on how to deal with any given kind of asbestos. So long as it's in place, it likely will not be a problem, but I believe messing with it in any way should be done by someone who knows more about it.

(And I come from a long line of fools who would barge in and do it ourselves. But still.)

AYRT—I would leave it, but the room had moisture issues and the popcorn ceiling is moldy and has to come out. I’m just cheap, frustrated that there’s so few home improvement tasks I can do myself, pretty sure that scraping a ceiling if it’s not full of asbestos is something I can do, and (aside from owning a house) poor. And apparently removing it myself is legal, just risky,
