IA, it's silly to insist on that. People generally understand that fics can be written in good faith and then contradicted by later canon. "Warnings" aren't necessary.

Especially as a quick peek on the date it was published would show it was written before it was jossed...

That sounds like a very hypocritical sort of entitlement indeed.

That's a... strange hangup tbh, especially since they don't seem to care for tagging for actual sensitive subjects.

Like a fic being jossed doesn't even cross into the territory of needing to be warned for, and honestly there's probably a lot of fic out there that's jossed, it's kind of what happens y'know?

That sounds incredibly weird to me since, just by looking at the date a fic was posted, you KNOW it's not going to accurately depict anything in canon that came after it? Like, that's pretty basic common sense.

How can fic be canon really? I take it as a given that all fan fic is AU, even if it is very close with canon.

Basically they mean "canon compliant", which was a common term back in my day but I don't know if it's still used today.

there is a tag for it on AO3 but I don't know how widely it's used

I only use it when I'm writing actual scene-between-scenes fic where nothing in canon is even slightly fudged

There's a tag for EVERYTHING at AO3.

this randomly reminds me of how fandom consensus was that Ginny's full name was Virginia and in a lot of old Harry Potter fics, Molly Weasley will tell her off by using that name...basically all of HP fanfic prior to (whatever the year her name was confirmed as Ginevra) would need a warning by that standard, lol.
