What... is "actual literal squick"? I thought "squick" just meant "any arbitrary thing that a person happens to have a significant, negative, instinctive emotional reaction to". I'm confused.

(also, Oglaf is like... infinitely better than Sexy Losers and VGCats so I'm willing to cut it more slack) (I haven't thought about those comics in literal years and honestly I would have been very happy continuing not to think about them)

Squick= skull-fucking.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-20 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
OK, that makes sense, thank you for the clarification

I'm still kinda mystified how that's a uniquely bad thing, or worse than anything else in Oglaf / anything in Sexy Losers, but that's a separate issue

AYRT—I’m not the OP, I’m only familiar with Oglaf, and I don’t get the big deal either.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-20 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know! I was just saying generally that understanding the definition of squick still left me with some questions about the secret, not implying that you were OP - I really do appreciate the clarification.

not OP

Urbandictionary lists squick as "A term originated around 1994 in the alt.tasteless newsgroup as a response to the question "What is the sound of a good skull fucking?" The term was quickly picked up by the alt.fuck.the.skull.of.jesus group and used primarily within Subgenius circles as a verb meaning "To fuck someone in the skull."" (I had no idea of this origin, honestly). So I guess OP's talking about the panel of skullfucking.

da

I learned something today!

now to trace the etymology to find how this particular term became a blanket term for "something that makes you go 'ew no.'"

Probably because skull-fucking makes people go, "ew, no"

... Not all people.

Okay, you're gonna need to say what this "actual literal squick" is. I read Oglaf and I'm trying to think of what you're even talking about and I honestly can't think of anything.

It's a comedy porn comic set in a fantasy universe. There's all sorts of things shown in it that would be squick to someone, but if you're able to read the comic in the first place, I can't think of anything that would be so upsetting that you'd have to stop.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-20 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Same. This doesn't ring a bell at all.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-20 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Squick=skull-fucking, iirc.

OP

(Anonymous) 2018-06-20 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
A man gouging a woman’s eye out with his penis. We see the socket afterwards.

Yes, that... That strip was too much for me as well. I still read Oglaf but jesus christ that strip

(Anonymous) 2018-06-20 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I know plenty of people who love Oglaf who said the eyefuck strip crossed a line even they didn't know they had. (It didn't put them off the comic entirely though.)

(Anonymous) 2018-06-21 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
I managed to miss the scull-fucking, as in I saw people talk about it and I made the executive decision not read that strip. And it crossed the line for me too, I haven't read Oglaf since.
