This is one reason I love Robin McKinley’s two takes on BatB; Beauty keeps her sisters in both books and they’re not “evil stepsisters,” they genuinely love their sister and she loves them back.

And while it would’ve been nice to see Belle have some friends her own age in the village, rather than her father, one symbolic beggar/sorceress, and the priest being the only villagers she gets on with, that would require that Disney introduce new characters who didn’t view Belle as a freak. The entire freaking town sings a rousing number about how weird she is, kind of hard to make friends after that.
