Who's saying everything has to be modernized? All I see is OP suggesting that one aspect of it could be more up to date (which was definitely one of the movie's aims) without losing the spirit of the original.

As for "it's not modern times", that seems an odd argument when these days films are in color AND high definition and later available for streaming to your own home or mobile device. You're certainly not arguing that we should be watching black and white silent films only, so obviously you, too, are in favor of selective modernization.

Not what I meant, but if I expand on it, I'm sure people will think I'm a chauvinist or a racist or whatever the fuck. You're right, OP did not say everything has to be modernized.

I would be curious to hear you expand on it but I understand if you don't want to.

My assumption would be that your point is about historical accuracy, which (if that's the case, and I know that it's just an assumption) it seems weird to demand that from Beauty & The Beast - not that historical accuracy is a bad thing, or racist or chauvinist, just that it doesn't seem important for the genre - but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
