She's biding her time for power, sure. But the politics of that relationship did not seem very complicated. Her very limited power was entirely dependent on what she was willing to give him.

I actually totally agree with you, OP. The relationship was abusive, but simultaneously she was biding her time to kill him and take over. It was a very interesting dynamic. Fucked up, but interesting.

I came out wanting dubcon/noncon with them. While I wouldn't necessarily disagree with your reading, it wasn't what I saw in the movie. There was a moment when he put his hand on her shoulder and she looked so uncomfortable, and it just screamed that she'd been forced to do stuff she wasn't comfortable with. That was the dynamic I want to read about.

I really liked her as someone who was simultaneously very sweet *and* a ruthless mob lieutenant. I liked the idea that she climbed high because she was very good at diplomacy (because the heavily armed factions and trade concerns might be different than countries, but they still need to broker deals and acquire some measure of trust). While I'm sure sex was part of her rise, I'm glad that she wasn't overtly sexualized in the movie. Q'ira was always more than a simple Moll, to me.

But, it does look like a fruitful setup for fic, so, y'know, go to town... ^_^
