Right. Unfortunately, despite being a murdering/sexually assaulting/raping asshole, in the novel it's his God given right, by the Government no less. And while he eventually (maybe) sees the error of his ways, it a little late.

Popularity with the fangirls + a billion, natch.

I'm not sure why. It's very...odd.

Yeah, I've noticed that trend. There's a VERY large difference between finding the actor who plays said sadist murderer hot and finding the sadist murderer hot. I find the actors hot, and I think it might be a coincidence that a good portion of the those actors I find hot portray psychopathic killers.
