Re: 143 (W/SPOILERS)

Yes! This is very revealing and awkward, but I found myself being disgusted WITH myself after reading the book because I WAS attracted to The Comedian. I think Alan Moore's a genius, really. The Comedian represents all these archetypes we're 'taught' to find attractive, especially in America: the forward-thinker, the brusque alpha-male figure, the intensely flirtatious, sexually-aggressive male, etc. I found him incredibly attractive and it made me feel really physically ill to realize that...it also made me reassess archetypes and heterosexual stereotypes, and conditioning.

OH MAN, it sounds so STUPID to admit to being attracted to a COMIC BOOK CHARACTER. Especially a racist, baby-killing, RAPIST one. UGH.

But at least you're analyzing and reassessing. I'm sure there are people that don't.

Then again, there are women who are attracted to rapists and murderers in real life and actively seek them out. O.O

Yes, I think Alan Moore WANTS us to like The Comedian. That's why he's The Comedian! He's supposed to CHARM us all. But I don't think it's supposed to be a GOOD thing to be attracted to The Comedian. It's a VERY BAD THING. But I just...want to be honest and say that it sure happens.

I watched the trailer and in the short scene they showed The Comedian, maybe with his cigar in mouth (?), torching...people (Eek?), I felt a little...FLUSTERED. SIGH. It's disarmingly ghastly.

Nah, it doesn't sound stupid. Being attracted to a comic book character is no different to being attracted to a character in any other book. Can't say I was remotely attracted to the Comedian, but I've sure been attracted to plenty of characters who've done appalling and disgusting things, on page as well as screen.

I guess...sometimes I'm also attracted to NIGHTWING.

ahaha, SO AWKWARD.

I was kind of attracted to Rorschach at first, when he's all mysterious and in the mask - even though I find his politics completely and utterly repellent.

I would probably have found Light kind of hot if he'd been older, too.

What can I say? Uh, these things allow us to explore our dark sides without actually cracking up and killing people, that's my excuse. ;)

YES. I felt that way for Rorshach a little too. And then...I was like "OH, not as interesting, w/o the mask."

And yes on Light too! I totally get where you're coming from.

If Rorschach always kept his mask ON, then yeah. XD

Although I do really feel sorry for the character; what a shitty life. I can understand why his world was black-and-white only. :/

Heh. I found Rorschach crazy awesome/interesting both with and without his "face" (mask), although I'm sure he'll get exactly zero squeeing fangirls because the character is frankly ugly (as is the actor playing him, appropriately, though I've heard he's insanely talented).

Actually, I just realized what a filthy hypocrite I am because I keep rolling my eyes at these love-for-psychotic-killers secrets, but I don't think I've ever wanted to give a fictional character a big hug as much as I do Rorschach. Poor guy. Sheesh.

Then again, I did really feel sorry/empathy for the Comedian, too (he obviously wanted to be closer to his daughter). And , despite...well, you know. I think it's a testament to the graphic novel that you do feel for and identify with these people, even when they're chopping up a guy's pet dogs and checking their corpses at him.
