Yeah, I have to agree.

Nah. Some of the sequels are very entertaining (especially when Depp isn't on screen).

I've seen 1 & 2 and enjoyed them both, but the first one is a classic, no doubt.

I think the first movie is still my favourite of the bunch, I enjoy 2 a lot as well but the others I saw were just... a bit too much focus on Jack. I've not seen the latest one though so idk what they did with it.

Yes. I watched the first one so many times when it first came out and it's still pretty enjoyable.
I think I've seen all the sequels now but I can't even remember their names or what order they go in. squidfaceguy, zombie javier bardem, mermaids gone wild. Idk.

I’m in the “never bothered with the sequels” camp, but your description and order confusion of them has me cackling. XD

PotC!

I'll agree, while admitting that I watched (and enjoyed ) all of the other movies. It would have been fine with just one. If they make another, it better be to phase Jack out, and let him sail in to the horizon, as he did in the first movie. But for real this time.

I love them all. They're unserious, action filled, ridiculously over the top popcorn movies and I love that about them, to be honest.

But I do understand that not everyone likes them and that's cool too.

someday I will write the fic where Norrington becomes the new captain of the dutchman instead of having the stupidest death

because the WHOLE THING with the EIC and modern capitalism eating up all the wild places of the world where piracy used to thrive is ALSO concurrent with modern capitalism destroying the world of earnest chivalry that norrington embodied in movie 1

norrington taking over the dutchman would be a thematic preservation of a space for magic and old naval honor, and heal the corruption of Davy Jones' and Calypso's selfish toxic drama, and give the souls of those lost at sea a dutiful stalwart ferryman to see them safely over the waves, and be the ultimate redemption of norrington's book 2 fall, AND set up a great sequel for fountain of youth!Jack, preserving the eternal bit of wildness, eternally on the run from norrington, and having magic hijnks and traps and evasions and whatnot that various photogenic heterosexuals could get swept up in, I guess

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT

but I have to rewatch 2 and 3 to write it so I have put it off for a decade

I would totally read that fic because Norring's death was bullshit. :(

OP

(Anonymous) 2018-06-28 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
SAME. I feel like there were so many opportunities with Norrington, and he was already developed enough of a character, and sympathetic enough, that he would have deserved to have taken over the The Dutchman. I'd totally read this fic.

Please do this, nonnie. Jack's always been my man, but I grew fonbd of Norrington after he was disgraced, and I was genuinely upset about how (and WHY) they killed him off. They did him dirty. He was on the up and up...until...well...do him justice, anon!

The first one is great. I think it helped that it didn't take itself so seriously like the second and third one's did. It was just silly fun.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-27 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
...uh, i don't know how you read "serious" into any of the sequels
