people have a habit of maintaining the spaces they live in so they rarely *look* old

tho idk what this is referring to so

I lived for years in a town filled with medieval buildings, and even if you take great care of them there will still be signs of age.

LOL, what now? Have you ever been... well, anywhere with buildings older than 20 years? That's only true up until a point. The Notre-Dame de Paris gets the hell maintained out of it because it's a historical site of great importance. Guess what? It 100% looks old. Because it is old. You walk up to the top of the roof and you'll notice the steps are so worn, they're concave. That's age and use, right there. Even well maintained spaces don't look brand new when they've seen hundreds or thousands of years of occupation.

you realize those places look old because they're being preserved right? they're not going to rebuild the stairs, because as you rightly pointed out, it's a historical building

it feels like i shouldn't need to explain this but you're a particular brand of daft

NAYRT - Old buildings that are being lived on and not protected by preservation laws still don't usually get renovated or rebuilt all at once, so there would still be older and newer looking parts rather than the uniformity that the picture in the secret shows.

ayrt- ye that's a fair point.
