I simply don't understand Bruce/Natasha. It came out of nowhere. I'm glad Taika dropped that storyline & I'm glad the Russos didn't shoehorn it into Infinity War.

1. I agree

2. I still think the pairing is one that could've been potentially cute if it had been less weird

I actually shipped it after the first Avengers but then Whedon made it about babes loving nerds and I noped right the fuck outta there.

It's a combination of wishful thinking and fan service on his part, no doubt.

Same.

Hard agree. It made no sense, there was no chemistry, and there were already clear other options that made a lot more sense. Plus, no build up. Just suddenly they were in love.

Ooh, I totally agree about the no chemistry, but what other couplings do you think make more sense? Personally, I loved Tony/Bruce and Steve/Natasha had good chemistry too. Not sure why they split two ships with good chemistry to shove Bruce and Nat together, when their chemistry..was...well...
Like Marvel has made some weird decisions--Steve/Sharon was just NOPE NOPE NOPE.

Bruce already has someone, since at least one of the Hulk movies is part of the MCU. And for Natasha, I'd say Clint first and Steve second would make way more sense. Not that I want them to be canon. I don't want her paired at all. But at least pair her with someone she's talked with and has a relationship with. Then having her suddenly in love would make more sense. But with Bruce? There was nothing there. No build up. No prior relationship to even suggest at a bond.

NAYRT

I think I might be a party of one on this, but I have always resented that the rest of the MCU has tried their very hardest to pretend Betty Ross never existed.

And yeah, either Clint or Steve would have made far more sense if they had to pair Natasha with someone.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-30 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Make that a party of two. Betty's erasure still has me salty as fuck.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-30 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Tony/Bruce? Yeah, because the only way you can get your sausage fest together is to erase/bash/fridge a female character. Tony's not only with Pepper, they're going to get married. Sorry, but you're just going to have to get used to disappointment.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-29 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, were they just pressed about Steve/Bruce shipping? Because Bruce/Nat was way in left field.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-29 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it was just Joss Whedon. That’s what he does. “Oh look, everyone expects Nat to be with Clint. So we’ll put her with the last person you’d expect.” It just really really really didn’t work this time.

Ngl, when Thor first tried calling Bruce back in the arena... for a minute there I thought we were gonna have a new coupling.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-29 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I respect that.

And honestly, they're both hot and I like both characters, so I could certainly see shipping it

I was surprisingly glad with the way it was handled in Ragnarok. Just a little thing, and then that was it. And IW also handled it well: yes, Sam, it is awkward. This weird thing no one wanted, and now it's nothing because it's been two years off-planet.

Anyway, thanks Taika, for handling this as well as possibly could be done.

I feel like I'm almost the only one who doesn't mind this ship. I actually really liked it after the first Avengers movie... and wouldn't even say that it came *completely* out of the left field, but was really clumsily done in Ultron? I liked how she was the one who was able to calm him down after she was so afraid of the Hulk in the first movie... but the rest was kind of cringeworthy.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-29 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That was actually part of what I didn’t like about it actually, because the whole lullaby thing came across as a programmed/conditioned response to her, not a natural response such as he had with Betty. Now Ragnarok actually helped with that; that seemed more natural. But in AoU, that lullaby thing hit my squick buttons hard for some reason.
