What is so shocking? Fandom was able to make a massive pairing out of Clint/Coulson when both only had like 10 minutes of screen time. Fandom has latched onto and produced thousands of fic for "Original!Graves" a character that is actually never seen. Ever.

This. Nobody who's been hanging around fandom circles for a while should be surprised about this outcome.

I still remember back when I was in the Sherlock fandom and the second and third biggest ships were Mycroft/Lestrade (who hadn't even interacted yet when the ship became popular) and Moriarty/Moran (the latter of whom didn't even exist in the show, afaik).

You say "played the story both ways" as if there were only one choice for each version each. Maybe you just picked the dumbest choices, idk.
Are any of the characters super deep? Nah. Is Connor the flattest character? Definitely not. You... really managed to miss the point quite spectacularly and that's pretty impressive considering how obvious it was.

Because Connor is adorkable awkward and has the best storyline of the three main characters and his buddy cop relationship with Hank. It's not that deep. He's pretty much the definition of moe. Also we don't know if he has a dick and even if he didn't he could just buy one???
