(Anonymous) 2018-07-01 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)I've known three people who were involuntarily committed and two went on to live happy, healthy lives. The third died because her family enabled her illness after she was let out.
Sometimes helping someone doesn't feel so good. It might even feel like you're hurting them. But do you think the surgeon feels bad when she slices someone open? And if a person has cancer, the treatment is literally to be poisoned.
So if you accept that depression is an illness, sometimes you have to hurt someone in order to help them. And if they hate you for it, you have to be willing to accept that that's the price you paid for saving their life. Not everybody is brave enough to pay that price.
