Sure, but it feels like a lot of it is also about whose shoes the fantasy is supposed to put you in? If their problem is that D/S in relationships is primarily a fantasy about being dommed, rather than a fantasy about domming, then whump isn't necessarily going to satisfy that - it depends on how it's written and where the fantasy is.

Sure? They specifically mentioned "outside of ships" though, which is why I brought it up. Plenty of whump fic out there with characters in pain or submitting that isn't in the context of ships, where everybody enjoys idk, Bucky being pretty when he cries.

I assumed "this character is always dominant in ships" wouldn't count as "outside of ships" lol

Ok, I was worried for a second there. Yeah to me it read like OP wants other fans to enjoy Bucky crying prettily with and whump fans/writers/whatever would be where that's at. :)
