Death Note.

When L died mid-series. Then I was surprised again when the series ended without his death being revealed as a trick or fake out.

I was pretty shocked when L got killed. I thought for sure he was faking it or something. I stuck with Death Note to see how it ended, but it got boring real fast after L's death.
