Babylon 5, the whole Sinclair is Valen thing. That was a great twist. That's how you do them: plan it from the beginning so it is set up, but make it subtle enough that people are genuinely surprised.

River being the daughter of Amy Pond. I didn't see that one coming. Maybe others did, but I loved that surprise.
