My ex broke up with me because I can't really take care of myself very well, and I'm scared to start a new relationship because it will probably end the same way.

Well, no. It's not "bootstraps lol" to suggest that people can and should learn to care for themselves. I've been depressed before, people like you "defending" me by implying that taking care of myself is some impossible, unreasonable goal is not at all helpful. Please don't tell people that, because it's not true.

I mean. Speaking as someone who has experience with long-term, emotionally debilitating depression. Do not fucking act like you should not be expected to do the minimum of self-sustaining and that it is okay to just sit around whining and waiting to die or whatever. That's bullshit. take some responsibility for your life.
