I think people are obsessed with Dad!Tony, and that's why Aunt May ends up erased (I like your pun). Personally, I think Peter is enough of a handful to require both of them, but that's just me. :P

I love Dad!Tony, and I definitely don't want Aunt May going anywhere.

reason number infinity I hate the mcu for de-aging Peter.god I hate high school!peter so much because he's at his best when he's an adult and/or married high school teacher.

Not for a very long time, in the main universe. There's a new series starting with a teenaged Peter, but that's not in the main continuity. Until recently, he was running his own company.

Peter hasn't been a high schooler in over 50ish years. Possible longer. His high school career is the shortest of how long he's been published.

I could have sworn he was a college student early on, but Wikipedia says no. The first Tobey McGuire movie came out right as I was graduating college and a friend in grad school the following semester groused about how "Peter was supposed to be a grad student." I think a lot of us who didn't read Spider Man comics or hadn't known much about the character prior to the movies just assumed Peter was supposed to be whatever age he was in whatever comic or adaptation we happened to lay eyes on first. For me, it was apparently something with college-age Peter. For my friend, it was grad-school Peter (if he was ever even in grad school).

Which makes sense but doesn't at the same time because outside of peter's origin story, all his well known stories are when he's an adult or college aged. That's like thinking batman is always alone even though he only has about a year real time before Robin appeared who has been apart of the canon for over 75 years. Comics are weird but if movies keep focusing on origin stories/early years we're never gonna get any growth.

I loved Aunt May in Homecoming but hated how many male characters commented on how hot she was. Like...when she was on screen, we got to see her being a loving and supportive parent to Peter and it was wonderful, but the second she's gone, it was just "how's your hot aunt doing?"

Tony is the fandom bicycle, but comic!May is one of the more interesting characters in Marvel.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
I will forever be upset they walked back comic!May's death. The lead up to it was so perfect and emotional and fulfilling. It completed her arc perfectly.

AGREED

Gods, I get so sick and tired of Superfamily fic, where it's just "Here are my favs Steve and Tony and their Precious Smol Bean Peter and who's May? *Mariah Carey gif* I don't know her."
Please stop erasing female characters for your slash, guys. Please.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-02 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Now it is Tony/Doctor Strange wiht Smol Bean Peter.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I kept reading that as "Sean Bean Peter."

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Sean Bean Peter. Now that would be an interesting movie. Especially if he shouts "Winter is coming" whenever Bucky shows up. :P

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I thought that's what Bucky screamed whenever Captain America..............uhhhmmm nevermind

There's an easy way to get Dad Tony and not erase May - Tony/May, which the universe needs more of, anyway. :p

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
May deserves better.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I think Tony would be great for a fling, just not for a relationship. Go get it, May!

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly all I want is Tony/May where they're in an on-again-off-again relationship but always stay friends for the sake of the kid and it's super awkward all around.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, that might be cool from a storytelling perspective -- if May is interested. I wouldn't touch Tony Stark with a ten-foot pole, but from Teh Internetz I understand that is just me.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Tony's existence in the film is the entire reason I'll never watch it, but the fact that fans use it to totally eliminate the existence of another (much better, although that's not hard) character makes it so much worse.

MCU Peter erased her

(Anonymous) 2018-07-03 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Peter erased her by treating her like a finger-wagging parent (she isn't) and not telling her his secret. Kinda hard to involve her much in stories as a result. I have seen some great stories where he tells her and she kicks all sorts of ass protecting him afterward. But people don't often make that jump.
