I wonder what it is about Star Trek and Star Wars that draws this amount of fan scorn. In fact, I wonder if it's spillover from the same sci-fi fandom that complained about TNG constantly. It seems like when Star Wars started, in the 1970's, silliness in sci-fi was OK.

Pretty much everything George Lucas or Jim Henson ever did had a bit of the goofy, as did much of what Roddenberry did. But somehow in the 1990's, goofy was NOT OK with certain fans, and they had to denounce any goofiness, even in a franchise that was also goofy when they were kids.
