if we want a sort of "perfect world" where women and men are treated equally, then women wouldn't be allowed maternity leave, or men would.

Or like where I live, where men and women can split the fourteen months of parental leave there is (and one extra month is specifically reserved for the father), and where we're discussing making a law that makes the parents share equally?

Also, I've read in the paper on two different occasions of women that have actually beaten a rapist down, and getting away. It has nothing to do with what we can do, but more with us being raised to be afraid of everything, and told we can't do anything.

I have myself bodily thrown a guy out from a party, and he was at least three decimeters (about a foot I think) taller than me. When you're angry enough youi get stronger, and while it's certainly risky to go at someone much bigger than you, the same thing goes for men.

Statistically, it's (young) men who are most often victims of violence. But do they go around feeling like victims all the time?

So. Much. Word.

That wasn't really the point of the Ouran episode. I'm sure that Haruhi could've beaten down Kyoya as you said, but the point itself was the fact that those sorts of situations would happen, simply because Haruhi was a girl. And yes, the initial reason why Tamaki was upset was slightly sexist ("You're a girl, so you shouldn't be getting into fights!"), but the point that Kyoya was driving home (and what I'm assuming the poster was squicked by) was more a fact of life.

Statistically, it's (young) men who are most often victims of violence.

Men are also more likely to start the violence they're victim to as well. I work in a haunted house, and generally men (especially 50-70 year old men from outside the US, and teenaged boys) are more likely to attack me, and have not hesitated to do so.

the point itself was the fact that those sorts of situations would happen, simply because Haruhi was a girl.

Equally dangerous situations happen to men and boys all the time - in fact, more often than to women and girls. The biggest difference is that women are told we can't do anything about it, while men generally think they can defend themselves.

Men are also more likely to start the violence they're victim to as well.

Sure, but I'm specifically talking about unprovoked violence.

I work in a haunted house, and generally men (especially 50-70 year old men from outside the US, and teenaged boys) are more likely to attack me, and have not hesitated to do so.

I'm sorry, but I simply don't understand what you're saying here. Haunted house? With ghosts, you mean?

And, well, if you're being attacked all the time by people stronger than you (though someone in their sixies shouldn't be too hard to handle), you should really try and practice your fighting skills. Certain types will even avoid trying anything if they can see that you're not afraid.

Er, sorry, Haunted House was a bit weird of an explanation. I work at Universal Studios Hollywood, and my job is in a maze featuring all the old Universal monsters, like Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolfman, etc. My job is specifically a female zombie from Dawn of the Dead. Basically, it's our job to spook people, and naturally many people react with limbs out in the general direction of the threat (aka me). However, there are just as many people who, once they've seen the 'threat' think it's quite all right to attack it. While infuriating, it still makes for an interesting social experiment.

I used to be big on the martial arts thing (and considering I'm 6' tall, I can easily down anyone I please), but unfortunately, if I were to even touch any of the patrons back I would get fired immediately.
