I don't think the OP was talking about the thunder thing, but rather how Tamaki criticized Haruhi for defending the girls just because she was a girl, and then Kyouya said that as a male, he could hurt her and she couldn't stop him, just because she was a girl. And then she ends up agreeing with him. It kind of ruined a really strong character for me.

I know that's what she was talking about; I was trying to justify why I liked the episode with the storm thing. I understand that it looks pretty offensive that way, but like I said, I think Haruhi is strong enough that she came out of the episode unchanged. She was still brave later in the series. I figured the episode was teaching her why people worry about her and that she can't just throw their feelings aside, whether out of ignorance (not being aware that they care) or because she doesn't think they have a reason to worry, not that she should assume the role of a girl in distress and let everyone save her all the time.
