Oh man I'm so excited at the prospect of finally getting an animated adaptation!! Is anyone here watching it? Is it good, bad, average? Thoughts on the updated setting? Should one re-read the manga before or after ~~or instead of~~ watching the anime?

I watched the first episode and really enjoyed it! The animation was nice, the pacing's great, and I really enjoyed the music. I've never read the manga though, so I can't comment on that, but I've been wanting to read it and Viz is going to re-release it, so I might pick it up if the anime keeps me interested.

It's been a such a long time since I read the manga that I can barely remember it, but I know I'm gonna have to wait until I'm in the right mood to watch it. XD

I'm watching it, even if was not-sold on the manga to the point that I stopped reading at volume four and never got back in.

Let's just say that I liked the first episode a lot more than I liked the manga, and am absolutely planning on following it. It's also set to be 24 episodes, which is an extreme plus in my book.

The manga is dated and cheesy, but it's one of my favorite BL series. It impacted me very emotionally at the end.

I read the first manga. I remember liking it but I guess I wasn't motivated to find more of it. I don't watch that much BL but maybe I'll check this out.

I'm not really into BL either, but there are other BL series' or series' with BL elements that I've loved a lot more than I cared for Banana Fish.

I'm a huge BL fan and I've never heard of this?! Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks, anon! I found it, watched it, it was siiick! The animation was actually really awesome, does this have higher than the normal BL anime budget? That fight scene at the end was snappy. Hopefully the next episodes come out soon!

Glad you liked it! The animation's pretty damn awesome and I think it may have a bigger budget 'cause it's not classified as BL (it's shojo, believe it or not, with BL undertones). Plus, if I remember correctly, the manga was really popular in its heyday and appealed to multiple audiences.
