This is... a really weird suggestion, but I cried it out a little bit listening to Randy Newman’s “Follow the Flag”. (I mostly love that album— Land of Dreams— for nostalgic reasons, and I happened to have it come up on shuffle.) I’m by no means a patriotic person, but it’s a song with some lovely sentiment, and the line “into every life/a little rain must fall/but it’s not gonna rain forever” hit a little harder than usual. It helped to have a cathartic little cry about it.

It’s gonna take a long time to undo what’s been done, but it’ll happen. We’ll get there, eventually.
