I'm not sure that's how it works when you're on Scarlett Johansson's level. Given her fame, and also her previous work with Rupert Sanders, I suspect that she had a lot of agency in choosing to work on this project and play this part. A lot of times, having an actress like Johansson attached is a key part of getting a project like this funded in the first place.

Also, way more people know who Scarlett Johansson is than know who Rupert Sanders is. So that's probably part of it as well.

Whether she accepted the role willingly (and knowingly) or not is not my point, someone must have offered her the role (or agreed to give it to her when she expressed her interest on it) in the first place.
