I see both sides of this, but on a philosophical level, I can't say I have a problem with a singer wanting to just sing, and use her public persona purely for that. Once you give in to some people demanding you say something about one issue, suddenly you have to make statements about all kinds of issues. And maybe you want everyone to be able to enjoy your music, and maybe your politics are your own damn business and no one else's.

That being said, I'm not familiar with this specific controversy. It's not really controversial - or rather, SHOULDN'T be controversial - to speak out against racism.
