108. Well, lose for use of "bcuz" (the heck?), but also because I thought we were finished with these lame "This is the best thing ever" secrets that don't fricken' name the thing in question.

113. Nah, doesn't make you a bad Batman fan. Return of the Joker was hard-freaking-core. I loved Heath Ledger's Joker like mad, but it's only one (very very very good) take on a classic character. Hamill's Joker will always be the definitive one for me, and in that movie, he got to cut back, no holds barred. It was phenomenal.

118. I feel that way a lot, actually. I haven't actually loaded anything on dA in awhile (for a good reason for once--intercontinental moves tend to upset the mundane little things), but I'm still a little sad when there aren't any new comments. I just chalk it up to "I'm an artist; we're very vain people."

124. Oh...okay...? Um, that's definitely your problem then.

126. WORDTASTICAL!!!!

129. Heh. I'm living in London right now, and I'd be lying if I said that thinking about Neverwhere actually makes taking the Tube during the "everyone's off of work" time tolerable. And when I'm waiting in a station and there's, like, nobody else in that station? Yeah, I'm thinking of Neverwhere. Heck, I brought the book with me to read my first week there, and wound up using the map at the beginning during a crisis.
...
I'm sure if I get the timing just right, eventually the Earl's Court train'll pull up for me.

130. You had me until the crotch bit. I'm just neurotic--I usually go over that bit real quick-like. But now you make me want to finish some artwork instead of just doing doodly-sketches...I really want the fun and, well, intimacy of painting the facial features, the hair, skin and freckles and all.

131. I don't really get this attitude towards anything. I mean, I know all about the whole "can't be bothered" thing, but I never got the whole "Everyone loves it, so it can screw itself." What's the point?
Ah well.

134. HAHAHAHAHA.
Seriously. You're not much of a special snowflake either. There've been plenty of secrets like these. That's what fandom secrets is. IT's a place where people put their opinions up anonymously, for whatever reason--maybe they don't want to bring it up with fandom friends, maybe they have no fandom friends, maybe they honestly are ashamed of it, maybe they just want to talk about it but no one else around them wants to listen. So they make a secret. That's what the bloody place was made for already.
So if someone thinks that the Joker was really sexy, but their friends were freaked out, or if they absolutely hate a character on Doctor Who, but it seems like everyone loves them, or if they just don't feel like starting the detailed, possibly wanky discussion about some level of fandom in their own space, but they still want to put their opinion out, then they do it here.
It has absolutely nothing to do with being "special" or "unique"--it doesn't matter if it's a brand new opinion or one fifty people have had before. It's their opinion, and they want to express it. That's what this place is here for.

Oy.

137. I kind of totally want to get up there with a rollicking rendition of...oh, any Great Big Sea song, but especially a nice shanty. Or Tom Waits' "Two Sisters." Sung exactly like he does, of course.

138. That...that actually made me cry a little bit. No, I'm nopt kidding. Man.

140. I won't deny it, I feel that way too. I also know that I write and speak like whatever I've been reading, and I do not want to poison myself with that "prose."

You know, that's actually the only response that's made me think.

The secret was made out of exasperation towards people posting seventy five secrets that say things like "zomg, I hate companion X" or "I would so do the Joker, LOL Y AM I SO STRANGE?" And things that aren't secrets at all, but rather the general opinion of everyone. :/

Though you do make a good point, I feel like there's a difference between Fandom Secrets and Fandom Feelings-And-Ideas-That-Are-Generally-Accepted.

Well, it bugs me when things like "Donna's fate made me cry more than Doomsday, I must be a freak!" kept getting posted, because good common sense will say "um...right, She's only the most universally liked companion who got written off in the most tragic way possible..." got posted. Anything that simple (that can be replicated by replacing a few nouns with other names) that ends with "I'm so weird!" annoys me.

The "I would so do the Joker" secrets I can roll with a bit because, while it's generally accepted in fandom, real-world-sense would say otherwise. I mean, hot as Heath is, especially in that role, it's still a psychopathic, maniacal homicidal clown who slices people's faces open, tortures them, feels no remorse, and as the actor himself said, has no human feeling left to him. On the surface, that's a pretty weird choice in the "things I would do" category. Especially if a poster was someone who maybe went for the hero or the nice guys usually (main reason I haven't made such a secret--I've known about my favouritism for the psychos since Xelloss).

But while I agree with your last statement, I guess it's worth remembering that what seems like a generally accepted feeling to one person might not be to another.

Of course, there are folks just trying to get a shout out. But I can't say I mind that too much either--that's how all the Six-fans found each other a few months back.

Were you crying with laughter, or sadness?

I won't say it wasn't funny; it was, in a sick, horrible way (which I appreciate as much as the next twisted gal).

But in this case, sadness. There's just something about his death--about him being dead--that just affects me so much more than I think it has a right to, and the movie slammed it all back in my face. It's just...not right, like some cosmic mistake. I want to see what he does next! And it really gets to me that...that's it, that's his career over, finished, no more, when there really really should be.

I probably wouldn't've cried if it hadn't sort of made me laugh first, though. Ouch.

Just wanted to say that I was going to write my own comment on this secret, but you just summed up everything I was going to say. I was thinking about it today - what *is* it about his death that affects us so much? I don't even know, but I feel kind of silly.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who still feels like this. It's not like there haven't been other celebrities I've been a fan of who died. And while I really liked his work (and, y'know, watching him. Rawr) and actually checked IMDB for his new projects, he wasn't at the top of my favourite actor list. Mostly, I'm annoyed with myself for being this upset about it this long after the event. But it just seems wrong.

It's like if you're reading a story, and the author introduces this character, and starts building up all these hints about the amazing things the character could do, and here's some foreshadowing about who they might be, and dude, it's gonna be so cool when we get to that point... but then the author kills 'em off thirty pages into it. You're like..."wait...that's a lousy move! You can't do that! He's supposed to fight the Dragon King or fall in love with the plucky heroine or something!"

Sorry if I'm just rabbiting on with more of the same, but it's been going all through my head at work, and I figure if I keep babbling, eventually I figure out why it's sticking with me so much.

It isn't so much 'everyone likes it so I can't' or anything ... I've given a lot of 'over-popular' stuff a try and been pleasantly surprised and even relieved to discover something was really good.

Maybe it's just me, but ... the more someone bugs me about something, the more apathetic I get towards it. Like if a friend is up my butt constantly going OMGYOUHAVETOSEETHISSHOW, I get more and more disenchanted the longer it goes on. It's like preemptive burnout, and it sucks.

This could be just a 'me' thing. But there have been so many friends going OMG WATCH THIS WATCH THIS WATCH THIS and so many fans going OMG THIS SHOW IS THE BEST THING SINCE BREATHING that I feel sort of overloaded before I've even gotten to it. And the overload kills it. Maybe at some point I'll be un-disenchanted.
