Yeah, I don't want them to cast a bunch of white Hollywood manufactured teen stars either, but I do think it's ridiculous to say that ONLY Asians can be cast. Besides, the casting isn't the only way to reflect the aspects of Asian culture within the show- like you said, there are other factors that display an Asian influence, and I doubt that they will be totally left out of the movie. And honestly, I'd rather they cast kids based on talent than on looks.

You make some good points, but I don't agree that looks should always be ignored if the actor is talented enough. If that were the case, why not cast, say, Edward Norton as a black two-year-old girl? It sucks for the actors, but no matter how talented you are, there are some roles you can never play because you wouldn't be credible in the part.

And considering how often the cast of a medieval-Europe-influenced fantasy is 100% lily white (depriving POCs of the chance to play awesome characters), it's more than time the reverse happened for once. I don't think it's all that strange to expect a story set in a bastardized version of ancient China to feature characters who look like they belong in the world and time period. (Besides, I'm sure there are plenty of talented Asian and Native American actors you've never heard of because it's so hard for them to find work who could do amazing jobs in the movie.)
