I haven't heard of this show before, but yeah, I can agree with people who keep hanging out at their former schools could be embarrassing by proxy. There are better ways to have handled having previous characters or staff come back.

Aren't their families basically share holders of the school? They basically own the place and it's right there available to use as a meetup point, I don't see why they wouldn't be there occasionally.

And I don't know, I "hung around" my high school with my old friends for years after we graduated. My high school club is still around and usually even after a couple years of graduating people go back occasionally and sit around to watch the current high school kids run club events, give some advice or instructions if they asked for it. Mostly it's an excuse to meet old friends and, well. Everyone knows where the school is, everyone knows where the old club room still is. It's hard fitting 10+ people in the city in one place, school grounds are public areas after school hours here. It's also tradition for the current members in the high school club to host an event available for ALL the previous club members to attend and get together once a year (and yes, it's a 100+ people event these days lol).

A lot of it is that sense of passing down tradition. I was a member of the 28th generation of the club, I've met people from the 11th year to the 34th year. I don't actually know most of the people except the ones about 3 years near me, but the point is I've met them. Some of them taught me stuff. I've talked to the younger kids. Mind you, it's actually been 2 years since I've gone back, but that yearly event invitation should actually be coming soon, so... :p

So I'm one of those otaku that has never seen Hana Yori Dango in any form and only peripherally knew that it was a sappy shoujo romance.

I recently was with some friends, who decided to show me the first episode of the Japanese live action show.

just, wtf. I am reasonably confident this show is actually a horror drama, not a romance, with all the rape, violence, and kidnapping I saw.

Hana Yori Dango was my jam when I was younger. I read all the manga volumes and saw some of the drama adaptations. I recently reread it and wondered what the fuck was wrong with younger me.

Ayrt

Haha I have no problem with dramas being dramatic, or drama in romance fantasies. I was just shocked at how dark it came across when I was expecting something sappy.
