I was reading a comment that said "People act that Star Wars in December has always been a thing, but it's only been three years."

I thought "....wait, really, I thought it was four, didn't last jedi come out in 2016?"

Nope. The furor around this film has ONLY BEEN SEVEN MONTHS jfc.

I'm exactly the same. I was hugely underwhelmed when I watched the original films (and haven't seen any of the recent ones), but I must have watched the Redlettermedia reviews dozens of times because I find behind the scenes story so fascinating. George Lucas is such a glorious hack fraud and SW has the most over the top fanboys.

Well you've certainly come to the right fandom, bc if there's one thing we've got in spades it's drama, lol.

I'm actually a big Star Wars fan but haven't really cared for the new Sequel stuff. But I do really enjoy the autopsy videos about the movie on YouTube - the ones with people really digging into why they liked it and the ones doing the same for why they didn't, why they think it was good writing and why they thought it was terrible. It's really fascinating to see such polar-opposite readings.

I generally stick to the more well-reasoned stuff. Some of the batshit stuff gets too nitpicky. It is sad, as a Star Wars fan, though that so many of the comments to these videos degenerate into name-calling and there's so much negativity out there in the ether surrounding a franchise I love. I was super sad to hear that one director saying he wouldn't direct a SW movie because of the fans. But, I know it's not just Star Wars. Everything is like that right now. I'm just sad that something that used to bring me joy is full of such hate.

Just remind yourself that that the thing that brings you joy ISN'T really full of hate at all, it's only the bullshit that unfortunate, sad little people bring with them.

I suspect there's a certain amount of political trolling and brigading going on from people who claim to be lifelong fans because they saw the original movies as a kid and had an action figure.

Never mind that probably a supermajority of people have seen the movies, and you couldn't give first generation action figures away at yard sales after their original owners hit high school.
