That's a matter of opinion. I think the OP is iffy for not sympathizing with anyone else. But Personally I found Thanos a tiny little bit sympathetic. But opinions may vary.

He's definitely supposed to be sympathetic, yeah. He's a Well-Intentioned Extremist who's goal is to save people and make everyone's lives better, and throughout the movie they spend a lot of time building up how much he loves Gamora and is genuinely trying to do good.

All that said, I didn't find him very sympathetic, because I have a hard time looking past mass genocide and torture and all the other horrific shit he did.

"well-intentioned" "make everyone's lives better" "trying to do good" doesn't mesh at all with "mass genocide" and that's where my sticking point with him is. The definition of "sympathetic villain" seems to have shifted from a villain who was driven to this point by circumstance to a villain who was sad that one time. Like...Vulture in Spiderman: Homecoming would be a better example of actual sympathetic because we can see that his point and to an extent even his methods have a logic and he's driven by actual. Thanos is just fucking insane, and no amount of "oh but he feels bad about it" can make up for his nonsense in my book.
