Reality shows

Sometimes you just have to let people enjoy trash.

New/politics shows that claim to be telling "the real truth that the other media doesn't want you to know". Usually very biased, poorly researched, basically promotion for one political party, lots of opinion pieces from presenters who have no background in politics and just like to offer their view as a mother/average human/person of faith/poc/citizen.

Both sides of politics have these shows. I'm not gonna win any friends pointing that out, and people get super fucking angry about it.

All three or four chick-lit books I've read.

This is not me judging people who like these books. I mean, I read fanfic, 80% of which is on some level garbage. It's just... having conversations with family members who know that I read a lot of books, and who insist on telling me how great this season's bestselling chick-lit is, when I've tried the ones of previous years and they were shiiiiite.

I like chick-lit books, there was a time where I read a lot of chick-lit books, but I can understand how it doesn't appeal to some people. A lot of stories tend to be the same, much like rom-com films.

Reality TV.

Not to say that people can't enjoy them, or I think less of them if they do like them. Have fun with the ridiculous scripted 'drama' but those shows are what come to mind immediately when I think of garbage TV.

Roundtable talk shows. Particularly of the political sort.

Dark/grim retellings of fairy tales, tbh.

It gets repetitive after a couple..

All cable news because it's 100% politics now and they don't report on anything else anymore. You'd think they start each hour in primetime giving you a rundown of the day's news and THEN talk politics, but nope. The only way to see news on cable is if something weather-related happens because the Weather Channel will report on that.

Talent shows / singing comps / x factor etc. I genuinely believe they are the modern world's Victorian freakshows, especially the earlier rounds where they put clearly mentally ill or disabled people onstage for the audiences to hoot and howl and laugh at while the judges roll their eyes with their smug little smiles. But everyone I work with love these shows and the one time I suggested I found it immoral, I was shot down so hard I never brought it up again.

"Problem" chat shows like Jeremy Kyle. Again, exploiting (usually poor) vulnerable people for shows. Jeremy Kyle and his smug fucking judgy bullshit is going to hell if there is one.

If it's specifically that aspect of those shows that bothers you, I would recommend The Voice. They do NOT do any of that crap like putting people on the show who can't sing just to make fun of them. EVERYONE who gets to the point of being actually shown on the show has at least SOME talent. No one gets made fun of (except occasionally the coaches, by each other :P lol) and the comments are typically 100% encouraging and positive. It's a very positive, uplifting sort of competition show, unlike most :P
