It's not impossible to be a fan and make good things within that structure. You just have to be able to be... like... critical. To have the faculty of taking a step back from total emotional engagement with a thing.

Which, obviously, is a quality that a lot of fans don't possess. But there's also a lot of times where intense love for something is a positive. It's just a question of how you harness it.
