I don't get most people's male celeb crushes, either. Most of them just seem blandly generically Hollywood. I think people like Cumberbatch and Driver get attention because they're different from the usual types.

These should be fairly easy questions to answer. Do you find anyone attractive? Do you find any actresses attractive?

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of people have shit taste.

You're welcome!

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing wrong with you - objectively speaking those are not attractive men.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
No such thing as an "objectively" attractive man in the first place

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course there is. Your finding one or more of them attractive does not make them objectively attractive. You could think Steve Buscemi is sex on a stick, but that doesn't make him objectively attractive.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
What *does* make someone objectively attractive?

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

I take it more as overwhelmingly attractive to the majority rather than literally attractive.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
objective not attractive

Symmetry and having familiar/averaged features are biggies. There are others.

Being Christopher Plummer in his prime.

Despite Hollywood's attempts to impose a universal beauty standard, not everyone finds the same kind of people attractive...

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much this, yeah.

There's no set timetable for "knowing" your sexuality, orientation or any of it. And it might change over the course of your lifetime. I wouldn't worry too much about trying to feel a certain way, or not. Just appreciate what feels right to you to appreciate and let the rest sail on by as people being people.

Agreed. Use the labels that work for you now. If one of those labels happens to be ace, let me be the first to welcome you to the community!

Eh, people like different things, different types of human. You aren't any weirder than the rest of us.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-18 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anybody get your bits tingling? At all? Ever?

If not, then perhaps asexual is a good fit for now.

Honestly, tho, it seems to me that sexual attraction is a range of likes and dislikes and trying to peg yourself into one slot forever and ever is restricting. Chill, OP, if you want, you'll figure it out sooner or later. Hopefully no one's pushing you to make a decision.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-19 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm.... not sure that's how asexuality works

i consider myself bi and have never felt my 'bits tingling' just by looking at an attractive person

(Anonymous) 2018-07-20 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe not. Maybe it does. On the spectrum of human sexuality, we can all be a little different. That's why I don't like categorizing people too much.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-19 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Do you ever feel attracted to anyone? Because how often you are attracted to whomever is considered mainstream attractive vs. how often you are attracted to other people really doesn't say anything about your sexual orientation.

Personally, I never understood the appeal of Ryan Gosling ...until I saw him in Blade Runner 2049. Now I quite like him. I still think he's bland-looking and don't find him hot in a purely physical way, but I like him more as an actor than I did before.

Don't stress yourself out.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-19 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Attractiveness is subjective. I think Ryan Gosling is a pretty good actor (I don't much go for the movies he's in, but in what I have seen him in, yeah) and I really like his personality in interviews and I think he looks good aesthetically, but I am in no way attracted to him.

Are you attracted to anyone - man, woman, genderfluid? They don't have to be celebrities and they don't have to be what a lot of other people find attractive. Honestly, celebrities are an easy point of reference - appearance known by many.

I don't get the supposed attractiveness of most male celebs either. Especially Tom Cruise...

I find most celebrities that people get obsessed with quite bland looking but I'm attracted to interesting looking ones, or IRL people.

Also, it's okay to not know what categories of people you are or are not attracted to! You may figure it out and you may question your entire life and either is valid.

I think a lot of times people are attracted to roles these guys have played as much or more than attracted to their actual physical attributes. E.g. they fall in love with Ryan Gosling's character in The Notebook or Adam Driver's character in Girls and kind of become enamoured of the actor in general as a result.
