It's curious to me how fandom trends go. I remember when episode tags were bigger than they are now, but it could be the fandoms I'm in. I thought there were more Mary Sue self inserts back when I was a younger fan so maybe that kind of energy is going into modern AUs instead? It would be interesting to chart it but I think whenever we give personal anecdotes, it's really dependent on the particular fandoms we are in and our immediate friends are in. Fandom as a whole is quite huge and diverse and exists in a lot of places these days.
