Re: What things do you think should be illegal?

Because I think addiction and substance abuse are mental health problems, not reasons for incarceration. Also, making drugs illegal doesn't stop use; it only encourages a black market (i.e. drug cartels). And illegal drugs are obviously under no regulations, which means there's no telling how they were produced or cut or what's actually in them. Basically, I think criminalizing drugs causes more problems than it prevents.

But drugs are inherently dangerous. There's no such thing as a safe level of drug use that doesn't come with serious risks, and for that alone I think they need to be illegal. People shouldn't be able to access them, period.

I'm sympathetic to prescription drug addiction or things like opioid addiction that grew out of prescription drug use and I think those have genuine underlying health issues that need to be addressed rather than criminalized. But anything else? You know damn well what you're getting into if you choose to start taking something like coke or meth or heroin (that isn't linked to a dependence on prescription drugs). There are always going to be people who are stupid and will try it anyway, but if it's illegal, then they do so with full knowledge of how dangerous it is. It shouldn't be something that's available for people to just try out of curiosity because it's there.
